Laura & Bill | Pittsburgh Botanic Garden

There is something magical about a wedding surrounded by nature, and Laura and Bill’s day at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden captured that magic perfectly. With its combination of indoor and outdoor spaces, décor versatility, and natural beauty, it’s an ideal spot for couples dreaming of a luxury outdoor wedding in Pittsburgh.

Their Love Story
Laura and Bill met early during their hospital rotations, and as they shared in their private vows, “it was love at first sight.” From the very beginning, their connection radiated through every detail of the day, making their wedding a true reflection of their personalities and love.

A Morning of Anticipation
Their wedding day began on a very sunny August morning. Laura and her bridal party prepared at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, while Bill and his groomsmen got ready at their home. Laura wore a beautiful fitted gown that glittered in sequins with a structured bodice from Luxe Redux Bridal and Bill wore a charming fitted navy blue suit that completely stood out with their bright color scheme.

The bridal party traveled to Pittsburgh Botanic Garden for portraits captured beautifully by Iris Marie Photography. (I HIGHLY recommend Brianna — she is such a sweet soul and an absolute joy to work with. Her attention to detail, professionalism, and calm presence made the day run smoothly, and she has a natural talent for making clients feel supported and cared for. Brianna is not only incredibly skilled at what she does, but she also brings warmth, positivity, and dedication to her craft. Anyone would be blessed to have her as her photographer!)
Meanwhile, our team was hard at work setting up the ceremony and reception spaces. Pittsburgh Botanic Garden holds such a special place in my heart - it’s where I held my first internship and started my wedding planning career! Returning as a planner for Laura and Bill’s wedding felt surreal and completely full circle.

A Summer Garden Party
We partnered with Farmer’s Daughter Flowers to bring Laura’s vision to life. They designed a stunning floral arch for the iconic barn doors, creating a breathtaking altar for the ceremony. The reception tables were adorned with lush centerpieces in shades of pink roses, pink peonies, red anemones, blue delphinium, colorful dahlias, stock, chamomile, and soft greenery, adding layers of texture and color that perfectly complemented the garden setting. Gold taper candles, table numbers, place cards, and my favorite detail — gold Blue Capri scented Anthropologie candles — completed the look. The scented candle fragrance filled the air, creating a whimsical, magical atmosphere - a scent they can burn forever to remember their special day! (Save this idea!)

The escort card and gift table was another standout detail. Laura imagined a mini atrium with florals and moss blooming out of the table as if it had sprouted from the garden itself. The combination of textures, colors, and natural elements brought her vision to life more beautifully than we could have imagined. And the bees loved it!

First Look and Private Vows

Laura had a sneak peek room reveal before heading to the meadow for their first look. Tears streamed down her face despite her joking that she wasn’t a crier. Moments like this, when months of planning come to life, are exactly why I love what I do.
Laura and Bill shared private vows in the meadow. I tagged along to assist Bri, making sure their moment was orchestrated perfectly. Off to the side, witnessing their love in that intimate moment was unforgettable — quiet, sacred, and filled with emotion. (Yes, I sobbed, too.)

The Ceremony
After the first look, guests began to arrive. The quiet moments before walking down the aisle are some of my favorites — the deep breath, the anticipation, the feeling that everything is perfectly in place.
The band, The Bachelor Boys, played instrumental versions of “Love Me Like You Do” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love” as Laura walked down the aisle. Birds chirped, bees buzzed, and butterflies flitted through the garden. Laura and Bill shared a unity ceremony by watering a tree they would plant at their home, symbolizing their growing life together. Finally, the two became one, sealed with a kiss!

The Reception
Cocktail hour featured wedding portraits, charcuterie, and signature drinks including Old Fashioneds and Moscow Mules. The reception began with their first dance to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli, followed by heartfelt toasts from their parents. Dinner, provided by Hazelnut Catering, was exceptional as always. Nick and his team take such good care of our clients and provide delicious made-from-scratch meals!
Guests enjoyed a cookie table, a s’mores bar by the fireplace, and cake cutting from Butterwood Bakery. Speeches from the Maid of Honor and Best Man added warmth, followed by parent dances and a highlight of the night — a traditional lion dance. This performance is full of symbolism, representing good luck, prosperity, and protection as Laura and Bill begin their life together. The lion, brightly colored and full of energy, moved around the reception space, weaving between the beams and gliding across the dance floor. Its playful movements and dramatic jumps drew everyone’s attention, and the performers made sure to include the guests in the celebration. Couples and friends tapped the lion, clapped along, and cheered as the performers mimicked the lion eating lettuce, fruits, nuts, and tossing various symbolic items for good fortune. The combination of music, movement, and interaction brought so much energy and excitement to the room, turning the tradition into a joyful and communal celebration. It was a beautiful way to honor culture, invite everyone into the moment, and fill the space with laughter and connection. After the dance concluded, the dance floor opened, and the celebration continued late into the evening, full of laughter, music, and love. Guests danced inside of the barn while others enjoyed the twinkling lights in the tent. Again, this venue could not be more versatile! There are so many areas to enjoy during your event.

A Perfect, Intentional Day
Laura and Bill’s wedding was thoughtful, full of joy, and lead with intention. Every detail reflected their story and personalities. Helping to plan their wedding from concept to execution was an absolute honor, and weddings like theirs are a beautiful reminder of why I do what I do — helping couples bring their love stories to life in a way that feels personal, meaningful, and unforgettable. Congratulations to Laura & Bill! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of the next chapter of your love story!
